The glycerin contained in our Marseille soaps is not added, but is found naturally in vegetable oil. After 10 days of cooking and numerous rinses, only a tiny fraction remains. Authentic Marseille soap, made using the traditional process, is in fact a non-glycerinated soap.
The ingredient "glycerin" is nevertheless mentioned in the list of ingredients on our soaps, as traces of it remain. New cosmetics regulations require all ingredients, even traces, to be indicated in the list of ingredients.
How to make your own washing powder with Marseille soap flakes ?
Hand washing
Dilute 30g of shavings in 1 liter of very hot water. Shake well, then add a further 1 liter of hot water. For woollens, use cold water.
Machine wash
With our new "palm-oil-free" shavings formula, we recommend you proceed as follows to make your laundry detergent:
- place a small handful or 30g of shavings at the bottom of your detergent container
- pour hot water over the shavings to melt them (start with 1/2 liter)
- shake well
- pour in another 1/2 liter of very hot water, to make 1 litre of detergent
- shake well
- your detergent is ready!
Due to its natural formula, the detergent may be slightly out of phase. Simply shake the can vigorously to mix again.
Practical tips
Add a glass of white vinegar to the fabric softener compartment (softens and removes limescale).
To perfume your detergent, add a few drops of essential oils (lavender, tea tree, citrus...).
For perfectly white laundry, add a tablespoon of baking soda or a small handful of soda crystals.
If you wish to perfume your detergent with a few drops of essential oils, wait until it has cooled.
